Dubai Design District launches design-focused initiative to benefit charity
Design 100 is an open call to the UAE’s design community…
Dubai Design District (or D3, as it’s known) is home to some of Dubai’s top design and art houses, and today the uber-hip community is launching a brand new initiative under its ‘Design for Good’ umbrella.
Entitled Design 100, D3 is putting out the call to designers across the UAE to create an object or piece of furniture that, if chosen, will go on to be produced in a limited quantity of 100 pieces and sold to the public. All the proceeds of which will go to local charity Dubai Cares.
Open call from @d3dubai for UAE based designers. Deadline 16 August.

Think you have a great idea for this? There are a few rules…
Firstly, the submitted design must be of a functional object and must be manufacturable within a budget of Dhs1,000.
The item must be made out of solid American Hardwood lumber, has to be easily mass produced and can’t be any larger than 100 cubic centimetres.
The theme of the piece also needs to be related in some way to the beliefs and values of the Founder of the UAE, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
If you think you can manage all that, head over to dubaidesigndistrict.com to submit your entry, but hurry submissions close on Thursday, August 16.
