The ban will be in effect every day until 9pm during the Holy Month

Ramadan is just over a week away, and if you’ve had a look at our comprehensive list of Iftars, you’re no doubt making plans to attend one or two yourself over the Holy Month.

After a hearty meal (and a full-day of fasting), many people like to immediately wind down with a shisha, as is customary in this part of the world. However, that will not be the case this year, at least not in any Ramadan tent in Dubai.

Dubai Municipality has issued a ban on shisha being smoked in Ramadan tents during Iftar. The ban will be in place daily from when the cannon is fired marking the breaking of the day’s fast until 9pm.

A senior government official told Gulf News that the move is to ensure the health and well-being of families, children and the elderly who can be adversely affected by the heavy smoke that often fills the tents.

The ban is applicable to all venues in Dubai, and runs until the end of Ramadan next month.
