Roller coasts, giant drops, log flumes – they’re all staple attractions that regular visitors to the UAE’s theme parks will have tried countless times.

But now, eager thrill-seeking punters will get to experience something completely new as Yas Waterworld in Abu Dhabi has announced it will be opening the region’s first 5-D cinema later this summer.

The 36-seat theatre will immerse viewers in around 50 centimetres of water, and include other special effects such as spraying water, water explosions, rain, waterfalls and neck blasts for a truly immersive aquatic experience.

Expected to open in June 2018, the Cinesplash attraction will screen an exclusive short film called The Legend of the Lost Pearl, which has been designed specifically for the 5-D cinema. It is said to be inspired by the UAE’s pearl-diving heritage and last approximately 12 minutes.

Tickets will be priced at Dhs30, on top of standard park entry fees.
