Want to own Sheikh Mohammed's Rolex?
It could be yours for Dhs580,000…
Now, here’s something you don’t see every day. A Rolex featuring the name of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum is going under the hammer at the upcoming Christie’s Important Watches auction in Dubai.
As far as important watches go, this one is pretty noteworthy. The watch was commissioned by the vice president of the UAE and ruler of Dubai after he was appointed the UAE’s first Minister of Defence in 1971 – the year the country was founded.
The “very fine and extremely rare” stainless steel watch has Sheikh Mohammed’s name written in Arabic on its customized dial.

The timepiece comes in a Rolex box embossed with the crest of the UAE, as well as a watercolour painting of the watch combined with a digital drawing applied on aluminium, signed by the artist.
“Personalized Rolex watches are highly prized gifts, often created to celebrate milestone occasions, and they are highly sought after by regional and international collectors,” said Remy Julia, head of watches for Christie’s Middle East, India, and Africa.
So… how much? Christie’s says the value of the Sheikh Mohammed watch is estimated at Dhs440,000 to Dhs580,000. Phew-wee.
The piece will be available for viewing at Jumeirah Emirates Towers from Tuesday, March 20, and is set to be auctioned on Friday, March 23 at 5pm.
