Fog causes flight delays at Dubai International Airport

Dozens of flights were delayed or diverted on Thursday morning.

After causing havoc on the UAE’s roads, heavy fog has once again blanketed the country, disrupting flights at Dubai International Airport.

Around 50 incoming and outgoing flights faced delays of up to two hours, or had to be diverted, according to the Dubai Airport flight tracker.

Dubai-based airline Emirates said on Twitter the weather had disrupted some of its flights, and advised passengers to check their flight status for the latest information.

Middle East Aviation shared screenshots of planes diverting due to the long wait times:

Some flights were diverted to Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah Airports, while others were diverted to Bahrain, Muscat and Doha.

Around 9.30am, Middle East Aviation said operations had returned to normal.

FlightRadar24 said Dubai International Airport had a delay index of 5.0 on Thursday morning, which meant the airport had “big problems with big delays and several flights cancelled”.

The average delay time was 54 minutes, according to FlightRadar24.
