How Princess Haya is helping to feed people in disaster zones
“HRH Princess Haya is a true champion for people facing hunger and poverty.”
HRH Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein has done it again.
The chair of Dubai’s International Humanitarian City – and wife of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum – recently helped launch a special fund, which will allow the rapid purchase and transportation of high-energy biscuits to disaster zones.
Biscuits, you may ask? These aren’t just any old cookies. The biscuits are highly fortified, packed with energy, and provide an immediate source of nutritious food to people caught in the aftermath of a natural disaster or conflict.
“HRH Princess Haya’s generosity is literally a life-saver,” said World Food Programme (WFP) executive director David Beasley.
“When an emergency happens, WFP must deliver food quickly, and this effort will put our emergency response into another gear so we can save lives anywhere, anytime.
“HRH Princess Haya is a true champion for people facing hunger and poverty, and our appreciation for her dedication and support for WFP grows greater each year.”
Princess Haya’s support for the new fund will mean the WFP can purchase and store these high energy biscuits at the UN Humanitarian Response Depot, which is located in Dubai.

Remember, Dubai is within an eight-hour flight of two-thirds of the world’s population, so it’s a strategic spot for disaster relief.
This isn’t the first time Princess Haya has donated her time and money to a worthy cause.
Last year, the royal donated US$39.5 million (Dhs145m) to fight hunger and poverty in her native Jordan, making the pledge in her late parents’ honour.
Princess Haya also famously hopped on a plane and personally supervised the delivery of Dhs1.3 million worth of aid to Haiti, after the country was devastated by a tropical cyclone in October 2016.
