New video reveals potential location of charging stations…

Back in April, DEWA announced the Green Charger Initiative – a comprehensive plan to double its electric vehicle charging stations throughout Dubai to 200.

The idea is to make it as easy as possible for residents to use more sustainable modes of transport (such as electric cars), looking to contribute to a 16 per cent reduction in carbon emissions across the UAE by 2020.

Earlier today, a short video was released via the Dubai Media Office Twitter account, showing how these new charging stations will work.

The video shows an electric car driving along a desert road and, as it passes, greenery and trees spring up behind it. Clearly, this is not actually going to happen (although it would be pretty cool if someone had figured out how to achieve that), but what is interesting is a map that appears towards the end of the video, showing the potential location of some of the new charging stations.

In the picture above you can clearly see 14 points on a map marked ‘ev’, indicating that we should be seeing electric vehicle charging stations in areas such as Karama, Deira and Healthcare City.

There’s no indication on stations closer to the Marina/JBR end of town, but we wouldn’t be surprised if there were plans for some there as well.

DEWA has previously announced that there will be two types of charging stations. Fast-charging station will be installed at petrol stations and can charge a car within 20-40 minutes. While medium-charging stations will take 2-4 hours for a full charge and will be found at shopping malls, parks and Dubai Government customer service centres.
