There are now free-food fridges in Dubai's parks too...
Filled with dates, juices and laban, these fridges are there to refresh the parks workers and walkers…
There are the Ramadan sharing fridges in Dubai’s communities and business areas, and now 30 free-food fridges have been installed around the city’s parks.
The Dubai Municipality installed the 30 fridges across 22 of the city’s parks as part of an initiative called Ramadan Park – and they are filled with juices, dates and dairy products to keep walkers refreshed post-iftar.
Which parks exactly? Sufouh, Nad Al Sheba, Zabeel, Safa, Quran Park, Al Khawaneej, Nadd Al Hamar, Mirdif, Uptown Mirdif, Al Warqa 2, Al Warqa 3, Al Nahda Pond Park, Al Tawar 1, Al Tawar 2, Al Tawar 3, Umm Suqeim, Qusais, Abu Hail, Al Barsha 1, Al Quoz, Muhaisnah, and Mizhar.
Remember that during Ramadan, it is not permissible to eat, drink or smoke in public between imsak, which is 10 minutes before dawn, until the sun sets, at iftar. There are some exceptions, however, read more about those here.
But why not go for a night jog? There are spongey running tracks in virtually all of Dubai’s parks (as well as its beaches), which are all part of the Municipality’s plan to encourage people to be fit and healthy.
Also – there are 80 fridges dotted across the city next to mosques where you can donate food. These are part of the UAE Food Bank initiative and are a chance for residents to donate surplus food. Here’s a link to find a full list of where the fridges are (heads up, it’s in Arabic, so some of you may need a translator).
