Sheikh Mohammed got all suited up for the Epsom Derby
Meanwhile, HRH Princess Haya had a matching moment with the Queen.
Less than a month after catching up with Queen Elizabeth II at the Royal Windsor Endurance Race, Dubai’s royals have enjoyed yet another delightful encounter with the 91-year-old monarch.
HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, prime minister of the UAE and ruler of Dubai, was in England over the weekend to attend the Epsom Derby horse race, joined by HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai, and HRH Princess Haya bint Al Hussein.
The group was dressed to impress, with Sheikh Mohammed and Sheikh Hamdan donning top hats and tails, and Princess Haya opting for a lemon yellow dress and headpiece.
They were watching the event on the sidelines when they were joined by the Queen – who is a friend of Sheikh Mohammed’s with both royals sharing a passion for horses.

According to the Dubai Media Office, Sheikh Mohammed discussed “the strong bilateral ties between the UAE and the United Kingdom”, while highlighting the importance of the classic English Derby horse race, and expressing the UAE’s keenness to participate in equestrian activities in the UK.
Meanwhile, Her Majesty welcomed Sheikh Mohammed and praised the historic friendship between the UK and the UAE.
(We’re willing to bet Princess Haya and the monarch probably exchanged a few words about their seemingly unplanned colour co-ordination, too.)
The real winner of the day, however, was Dubai’s Crown Prince.
Sheikh Hamdan took home the 1700-metre Princess Elizabeth Stakes trophy after Godolphin’s filly Laugh Aloud stormed to victory (Godolphin is a global thoroughbred breeding and horseracing team founded by Sheikh Mohammed).
Jolly good show, chaps!
