There’s something truly magical about fog season in Dubai. So does its return mean rain is on the horizon?

Those of you who live in a low-lying apartment in Dubai Marina will have woken up being able to see nothing out of your windows this morning. While people living high in the sky on Sheikh Zayed Road may have found themselves above the clouds with serious precipitation on their windows.

Welcome to Dubai’s fog season.

The fog affected Dubai’s very busy airports this morning, with reports of more than 20 flights being delayed (flying soon? You can check out FlightRadar24.com to see an overview of the airport, and check the Dubai Airports site to see if a specific flight has been delayed).

Here are some amazing pics taken by the people of Dubai this morning:

So what’s the deal with the weather?

As you can see from this National Meteorology Service (NCMS) report, it’s cloudy across the UAE, and there’s rain offshore:

ncms-weather

Will we see rain soon?

Well the NCMS are saying that today will stay “partly cloudy over some areas”, and that the “relative humidity is likely to increase by night and tomorrow early morning over some coastal and internal areas”. So yes, fog again tomorrow morning.

They also predict that the foggy weather will continue throughout the week (so don’t clean your windows just yet), although they don’t mention the chance of any significant rain in Dubai. But we’ll keep you updated.

Accuweather also forecasts no rain, predicting that the fog will lift in Dubai this morning and that tomorrow will be sunny. The weather service does see fog returning on Wednesday and Thursday and then seriously intensifying on Friday.

We’ll keep you updated and let you know if the chances of rain look like they’re increasing.
