Dubai's iconic Hatta Sign breaks Guinness World Record
The UAE bags yet another world record…
From the world’s highest observation deck to the world’s largest mall, the largest picture frame and much more, Dubai has no shortage of Guinness World Records. And the glittering city has bagged yet another, with the iconic Hatta sign winning the title of ‘The Tallest Landmark Sign’ in September 2023.
Standing tall atop the Hajar Mountains, the 19.28-metre-tall structure is a pretty iconic feature, and has made it onto many UAE residents’ and visitors’ Instagram posts. It is one of Hatta’s most visually striking symbols, and many ritually make the uphill trek for a close-up view of the local gem.
Paired with the stunning attractions already in the exclave of Dubai, the new spotlight it now stands in will only peak its interest among Hatta’s visitors. According to the Dubai Media Office, ‘The heightened attention will help stimulate economic growth, create employment opportunities, and foster local business development, contributing to Hatta’s sustainable growth.’
The new Guinness World Record comes right before the reopening of Hatta’s new season. Visitors will find plenty to do from glamping and trying the adrenaline-pumping activities at Hatta Resorts Wadi Hub, and will also have the opportunity to wend their way up the mountainscape for lofty views alongside selfie backdrops with a bonafide record-breaker.
Hatta’s masterplan
If you think you’ve seen it all at Hatta, there’s plenty more jaw-dropping plans announced for the humble exclave.
In October 2021, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai approved a Hatta Master Development Plan which is part of the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan.
By 2040, Hatta will be home to sustainable hotels, motels, bicycle tracks and more. It will be home to Hatta Beach which will brag waterfront areas which will be a great option for sun seekers who want to swap city skylines for nature.
