The addition of these footbridge networks across the city is to help ensure pedestrian safety reducing pedestrian fatalities and run-over accidents. It will also help towards making Dubai a more bicycle-friendly city which will in turn help keep residents healthy and happy and elevate general well-being.

Speaking on the project, HE Mattar Al Tayer stated, “The construction of footbridges is consistent with Dubai’s traffic safety strategy, which aims to make the city the safest in the world in terms of traffic safety. It also seeks to reduce fatalities from run-over accidents to as low as zero by providing infrastructure and safety measures for motorists and cyclists.”

So, where are the footbridges located?

The locations of the bridges have been chosen after analysing factors including the number of road accidents, the intensity of traffic, pedestrian mobility and ease, and distance from public transport avenues and nearby commercial outlets.

The first of seven bridges are already open to the public located at Dubai Hospital at Al Khaleej Street, between the intersection of Omar Bin Khattab Street and Abu Bakr Al Siddique Street.

The rest of the bridges will be open in due time. You can find them at Al Mina Street at the intersection between Al Saqr and Al Mina; on Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Street; on Ras Al Khor Road in two areas – one which will connect the Creek Harbour and Ras Al Khor Industrial Area and the other across Marhaba Mall and Wasl Complex in Nadd Al Hamar; at Al Quoz Creative Zone and at Al Khawaneej Street.
