The distance that has received the change is approximately six kilometres of road and the changes will be made as of Thursday, January 12 2023. The road signs previously show that the speed limit is 100 kilometres per hour, but these have been changed and red lines along the road will also mark the start of the speed reduction zone to alert drivers of the change in speed.
The reduction in speed limit has come in accordance with the Dubai Police based, on a study that takes into consideration the Hatta Master Development Plan. The study detailed all the improvement opportunities for the Dubai-Hatta Road and a prediction of future traffic volume on the road.
Decisions to change the speed limit were made due to the RTA’s continuous review of speed limits on all vital Dubai roads and relies on the Dubai speed management manual which is aligned with the top international standards. The manual identifies the best rates of speed, traffic flow and accidents and there are numerous factors and engineering standards that determine the change in speed. These include the design speed of the road as well as the speed at which most vehicles are observed to travel.
