Time to stock up on some new reading material for the litte ones…

The Month of Reading is celebrated every March in the UAE. It was first celebrated back in 2016 and after its success, HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai declared that every March would be an annual month of reading.

Every year the month of reading focuses on a central theme and this year the theme is ‘My Family Reads’.

The month is marked by a rich and diverse calendar of engaging activities and sustainable initiatives that motivate the community to read. The main aim would be to transform reading into a daily habit for everyone which will help build a future generation capable of driving the perpetual growth journey of the UAE.

Why was this theme selected this year?

According to the Ministry of Culture and Youth website, a study done by the Emirates Publishers Association indicates that only a small number of parents in the United Arab Emirates read to their children or encourage them to do so.

The study also stresses the importance of parents’ roles in encouraging their children to read and highlights its huge role in early childhood development.

Another recent international study indicated that parents reading to their children helps strengthen and increase the bond between them and also resulted in the child getting better grades.

During the 31 days, there will be launch campaigns, educational programs for parents and much more.
