Celebrating Anantara’s 22 year anniversary…

Nobody is sure when the first use of the phrase ‘TINSTAAFL’ (there’s no such thing as a free lunch) dates back to, but it’s pretty old — likely, over a century. It’s stuck around because its implied wisdom, more often than not, holds up.

What it’s saying, of course, is that when things (could be lunch, could be a magazine subscription, could be a holiday) sound like they’re completely free — it’s a mirage, an elaborate illusion — there must be hidden strings attached, the catch that springs the carefully baited trap. And suddenly the thing (breakfast, a mobile phone, the 1995 Chicago Bulls line-up) is no longer free.

Whichever way you want to see it, you’re either getting free meals, a free stay or free pampering. And that’s a deal worth dining out on.
