Here's why you're seeing sugar packets that look like cigarettes
Is sugar the new tobacco? This awareness campaign says that it is…
We all know that smoking is detrimental to your health, but did you know that too much sugar can be just as bad for you?
That’s the aim behind a new awareness campaign from Aster Clinics in Dubai, that is replacing free sugar packets found in the city’s many coffee shops with ones designed to resemble cigarettes.
The health-focused campaign boldly declares “Sugar is the new tobacco. Cut down on both”, hoping that you’ll think twice before sweetening your morning coffee.
According to the World Health Organization, an estimated 3.8 million deaths were recorded between 2012 and 2015 due to diabetes, high blood glucose and other illnesses related to sugar consumption.
The #stubsugar hashtag has taken off on social media, with many Dubai residents posting their support via their own accounts.
Aster Clinics is also offering free diabetes checkups for anyone interested, you simply need to SMS ‘STUB SUGAR’ to 7004 for more information.
Millions of people have identified the health community’s call to #quitsmoking, while, the deadly consequences of #sugaroverdose have been largely unnoticed.
