Lights out: Dubai observes Earth hour 2018
A reported 323 megawatts were saved by turning off the country’s lights for just one hour
Saturday night saw Dubai join many other cities around the world in observing Earth Hour to help raise awareness for for the environment.
Thousands of lights were switched off across the city between 8.30pm and 9.30pm, with government departments, business and private citizens all doing their part.
The Burj Khalifa and many of the UAE’s landmarks were plunged into darkness for an hour, while the RTA turned off a total of 1,433 street lights around the country.
DEWA reported that a whopping 323 megawatts were saved during Earth Hour, a 32 per cent reduction from last year’s efforts.
