Dubai cycling enthusiasts, here are 3 new places to get on your bike…

Three new cycling tracks stretching 32km in Mushrif, Mirdif and Al Khawaneej are set to open in early February.

The Dhs67 million project includes the construction of two bridges for both cyclists and pedestrians over streets in Al Khawaneej and Academic City.

“We aim to provide residential districts with an infrastructure that encourages residents to practice sports as it has immense health benefits to people,” said Mattar Al Tayer, director-general of the RTA.

The project is part of a master plan developed by the RTA to provide dedicated cycling and running tracks across the whole emirate.

By 2021, it is hoped the total length of cycling tracks in Dubai will reach around 500km.

There are also tracks planned for Al Warqaa, Jumeirah Beach, Nad Al Sheba, the Expo 2020 site, Downtown, Jebel Ali, Al Quoz, Al Karama, Oud Metha, Hor Al Anz, Al Qusais and Al Barsha.

“The selection of these areas was based on several criteria highlighted by the population density, appeal to cyclists and pedestrians, suitability of locations and the traffic safety level,” Al Tayer said.

“Moreover, tracks are designed in such a way that ensures the safety and security of cyclists.”
