But the good news is, there will soon be more of it…

Visitors to Jumeirah Lakes Towers are no longer able to enjoy free parking, with paid parking signs popping up in the neighbourhood this week.

Last month, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced it had signed an agreement with DMCC – the master developer of JLT – to change the way visitor carparks in the area are managed and operated.

It said by the end of 2017, 1,936 carparks would be classified into different zones, with 460 new parking slots to be created by the year 2020.

According to Gulf News, the new paid parking system was officially activated on Monday, though there are still no parking meters in JLT. Instead, visitors have to pay their parking fee via SMS or through the RTA’s smart parking app.

So, how much does it cost?

Premium parking slots are Dhs10 per hour for a maximum of three hours, and other spaces are Dhs4 per hour with no time limit. Free parking is available for people with special needs or disabilities (people of determination).

There are no seasonal parking permits, as residential parking is provided within the blocks.

Timings for paid parking are from 8am to 10pm, Saturday to Thursday.

The RTA earlier said the agreement would help streamline parking in the area, providing the largest number of slots for users.

“Dubai is one of the fastest growing cities in today’s world, and Jumeirah Lakes Towers is one of its most exciting and busiest districts,” said RTA CEO Maitha Bin Adai.

“Providing smart, efficient and high quality solutions for the people of Dubai has been high on the government’s agenda. We look forward to working with DMCC to enhance the overall community experience, and making mobility across the JLT district easier and smoother.”
