Take a VR tour of what a city on Mars built by the UAE might look like
A Virtual Reality tour set 100 years in the future…
At the World Government Summit in February, the UAE announced to the rest of world its intentions of establishing the first inhabitable human settlement on Mars by 2117.
What we didn’t know back then was just how it went about revealing this huge news. It turns out that attendees were treated to a seven minute long virtual reality demo that took them on a guided tour of what the first Martian city could potentially look like. How cool is that?
And now that same VR video is available to the public for the first time.
Set 70 years after the date that humans are projected to first set foot on the red planet, the video shows off a city contained inside a massive dome complete with terraforming robots, flying cars and even an area with trees and vegetation that “serves as the city’s humidifier and food production unit”.
The whole thing looks like something out of a video game, but it’s fascinating to catch a glimpse at what life on another planet might be like.
The UAE government currently has plans to build a Mars simulation city a little closer to home that will imitate real-life living on the surface of Mars for research purposes.
You can check out the VR tour video below, but we highly recommend using a pair of virtual reality goggles (you can build your own using these instructions) for the best experience:
