WATCH: It's so hot outside that cars are literally bursting into flames
Officials are urging drivers to carry out regular maintenance checks on their vehicles
Right, so we know we told you yesterday that it was hailing in certain parts of the country, but it seems that may have been only a temporary reprieve from the scorching summer temperatures.
In another case of “what the heck is going on?!” it is apparently so hot in Umm Al Quwain that no less than seven (yes, seven!) cars have spontaneously caught fire there in the last two months (according to the Khaleej Times).
The video below, released by the UAQ Civil Defence department, shows firefighters rushing to the scene of one such incident which occurred just yesterday morning on Etihad Rd. In it you can see an empty saloon car having caught fire while it sat parked with its engine turned off. Scary stuff.
Firefighters were able to contain the blaze before it spread to any of the nearby buildings, and police are currently investigating the cause.
Col. Hassan Ali Mohammed bin Sarm, director of the UAQ Civil Defence Department, has urged drivers to perform regular maintenance checks for potential oil and fuel leaks to their vehicles, particularly during the summer months. These are likely to contribute to instances of spontaneous engine combustion.
The Khaleej Times has reported that six other similar occurrences have been handled by emergency services as far back as 26 June.
Be careful out there, people.
