There's now a giant replica of Dubai Creek Tower in Dubai Mall...
You’ll find it right by the mall’s luxury watch shops…
By around 2020, Dubai’s tallest tower will no longer be the Burj Khalifa. It will be pipped to the post by Dubai Creek Tower, which is currently under construction in the huge new development Dubai Creek Harbour.
And you can now get a glimpse of what the tower will be like: last night, H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, ruler of Dubai, unveiled a replica of the soon-to-be-built tower in Dubai Mall.
The model was crafted by engineers and is made from aluminum, is partly 3D-printed and weights 3,000 kg.
It took 4,000 hours to make and is a great way of seeing how the mesh ‘draping’ around the tower will look in real life.
If you go and visit the replica – which is definitely worth it if you’re in the mall anyway – you’ll learn a bunch of facts about the tower, including the fact that the ‘flower bud’ top of the tower is the equivalent of an 80-storey building.
WHAT WILL THE ACTUAL TOWER BE LIKE?
The tower is inspired by a blooming lily and will be an architectural and engineering marvel due to its eye-catchingly slender design, the delicate mesh-like structure around it and, of course, its mammoth size. It will cost around Dhs3.67 billion to construct.
Here’s a look at five things you’ll find in the new Dubai Creek Harbour ‘burb…
The Creek Harbour dvelopment will sit near the Ras Al Khor area of Dubai and the UNESCO-protected Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary (which is home to 67 species of water birds). The huge under-construction suburb will feature eight million square feet of retail space, 39,000 apartments and homes, 22 hotels and another project called Dubai Twin Towers (these will be the tallest twin towers in the world, naturally).
It will also have a 4.5 kilometre Creek Boardwalk, which is sure to be a lovely area to walk around considering how close Dubai Creek Harbour will be to natural wetlands and the Ras Al Khor wildlife sanctuary.
We know where we’re moving to in 2020…
