The Dubai Lamp is the world's most energy-efficient lightbulb
Switching could potentially save up to Dhs2,000 a year in electricity bills
As Dubai strives ever forward in its quest be a far greener city, the emirate has announced the launch of the Dubai Lamp, the world’s most energy-efficient lightbulb.
Developed by Philips at the behest of Dubai Municipality, the four bulbs in the new power-saving range consume only 1 to 3 watts of electricity, rather than the 25 to 60 watts of standard bulbs.
Originally announced in October of 2016, the Dubai Lamp was unveiled as part of a sustainability drive aiming to reduce Dubai’s energy use for lighting by up to 90 per cent.
“This is the world’s most energy-efficient lightbulb and provides big efficiency savings, as well as lowering electricity bills for consumers,” said Olav Scholte, marketing manager at Philips Lighting Middle East.
Unlike conventional incandescent lightbulbs, the Dubai Lamp range are LED, meaning they give off less heat and have a life span of up to 25,000 hours.
Priced between Dhs18 to Dhs33, Dubai Lamp is available now at Carrefour, Lulu, Aswaq, Geant and Union Coop stores across Dubai.
Philips claim that the bulbs can potentially save consumers up to Dhs2,000 per year on their electricity bills simply by switching to the energy-efficient range.
