Did you know it’s the National Month of Reading?

If you love books, you’ll be pleased to hear about City Walk’s newest addition – a special pop-up “Reading Box”.

The mini library/lecture theatre/hang-out space is for the National Month of Reading, which was launched by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, vice president and prime minister of the UAE and ruler of Dubai – not to mention author – this month.

In fact, the Dubai Culture & Arts Authority initiative has taken inspiration from Sheikh Mohammed’s latest bookReflections on Happiness and Positivity.

“Throughout the book, His Highness emphasises the importance of positivity and the crucial role it plays in motivating accomplishments, high performance and success in all aspects of life,” Dubai Culture acting director general Saeed Al Nabouda said.

“The ‘Reading Box’ reflects on this message and focuses on spreading knowledge and promoting reading as a happiness tool for everyone.”

The box will host a variety of activities, including lectures, workshops, book signings and interactive reading sessions (you can check the schedule on the Dubai Culture website every day).

It will be open from 10am to 10pm on weekdays, and 10am to 12am on weekends, until April 1.

THE READING WORKER

Meanwhile, the Dubai Culture & Arts Authority has also launched an initiative called the “Reading Worker” – a Dubai Public Library awareness programme to highlight the importance of reading, particularly among non-Arabic speaking workers.

The library will be distributing books among the Waste Management Department of Dubai Municipality, in a bid to instill positive reading habits and strengthen the concept of giving in the community (it is the Year of Giving, after all).

What better way to give than by sharing the joy of the written word?
