The Dubai government is giving Dhs1 million to cash-strapped tenants...
Some good news to kick off your week…
We are now a quarter of the way through the Year of Giving, and to celebrate the spirit of generosity the Dubai government has announced that they will distribute Dhs1 million to residents who have found themselves unable to pay their rent in the past.
That’s right, the Dubai Land Department will spread Dhs1 million amongst tenants who have a) defaulted on rent payments and were b) found guilty of the lack of payment during court proceedings.
The money comes from a private family, from the estate of the late Obaid Al Helou – and the Dubai Land Department has set up a committee at its Rental Dispute Centre (RDC) to find the cases that should receive support from the fund.
The committee will look into each person’s story and conditions to find the people that were genuinely stricken by economic hardship. They will seek out people whose circumstances are in line with the charitable aspect of the donation.
Officials at the Rental Dispute Centre say every fil of the Dhs1 million will go to paying rent debt.
”We would like to express our sincere thanks to the late Obeid Al Helou family for making this noble humanitarian donation,” said His Excellency Judge Abdulqader Mousa, Director of RDC. “One of our key objectives at RDC is to secure stable relations between tenants and landlords in order to sustain Dubai’s safe real estate environment, and the donation will enable us to support insolvent tenants in a meaningful way.”
