Sia to perform at Dubai World Cup this year (her first UAE show)
Expect to yell ‘TUNE’ over and over again as Sia performs in Dubai for the first time ever next month…
Last year it was Janet, and this year Australian singer-songwriter Sia will close off the Dubai World Cup Day.
The Chandelier crooner will perform at the Meydan Racecourse on March 25 once the world’s richest horse race finishes up.
Sia hit chart-topping heights only a few years ago, but has been well known in the music industry for decades now: in the late nineties she was a back up singer for Jamiroquai, and then in 2001 her vocals came to the foreground as part of the duo Zero 7. Many of you will know this moody tune…
But today Sia pumps out pop mega hit after hit, her raspy, affecting voice hitting each note perfectly.
And she’s managed to build a pop star’s career all while concealing her face, proving talent can trump image. Why does she hide from the public? Well, partly to make a statement about image in the music industry but also because she says that fame causes her anxiety.
Maddie Ziegler, a 14-year-old dancer, often acts as Sia’s physical stand in for music videos and performances.
Speaking of Ziegler-starring videos, Chandelier has been watched by more than A BILLION people on YouTube. Wow. We’d probably hide our face when faced with numbers like that too:
Sia manages to attract phenomenal guest stars on her songs – we love this collaboration with Kendrick Lamar:
What many people don’t know about Sia is that she’s an incredibly accomplished songwriter too – to name just a few of her works, she penned Diamonds by Rihanna, Pretty Hurts by Beyoncé, You Lost Me by Christina Aguilera and Breathe by Jessie J. Impressive.
So what can we expect from the 41-year-old’s first Dubai concert? Well that she will cover her face (maybe with her trademark mega-wig or with an abaya of sorts?), that there will be some surreal contemporary dance on stage and that you will yell ‘TUNE’ throughout the entire night as she belts out hit after hit.
See you there.
Dubai World Cup, Saturday March 25. Tickets start from Dhs450 for the race day and the concert. More info and tickets here.
