What’s On has news that the UAE will host the FIFA Club World Cup 2017 and 2018. Seven teams will compete in the knockout competition.

Football fans can catch all the action of the FIFA Club World Cup a lot closer to home in 2017, as the UAE was announced as the host nation for the tournament.

The tournament will see seven football teams vie for the title over a two-week period in a straight, knock-out competition.

In addition to the six winning clubs from the Asian, African, North American, South American, Oceania and European leagues of that year, the UAE’s national champions will also take part in the tournament.

The championship was previously held in the country in 2009 and 2010, and saw local clubs Al Ahli and Al Wahda participate.

The tournament will be hosted for two consecutive years and was awarded to the country due to a number of factors, including the modern facilities and previous hosting success. In 2003, the UAE also hosted the Fifa World Youth Championship and in 2013, the Fifa Under 17 World Cup.

The news comes after the announcement that the Emirates will also host the 2019 Asian Cup. The regional football competition, which will be played in January, is expected to host matches in six venues across the country, including Zayed Sports City and Al Jazira Stadium in Abu Dhabi and Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium and Sheikh Khalifa Stadium in Al Ain.
